There are moments when life doesn’t just slow down, it feels like it stops. You can see what needs attention. You know you’re capable. You know you’ve handled difficult things before. And yet… nothing moves.
It’s a particular kind of stuckness: not about ability, not about motivation, not even about clarity. Instead, there’s a barrier, subtle at first, that becomes heavier and more solid the longer you sit with whatever needs doing, deciding or feeling. Before you realise it, the stuckness overtakes everything and now you’re not just paused, you feel completely immobilised.
For many people, especially those carrying long-term stress, anxiety or still following old patterns, this experience is incredibly common. It’s not laziness. It’s not avoidance. It’s a real, lived internal block that can make even simple steps forward feel impossible once the overwhelm settles in.
If you’ve noticed this happening again and again, it might be worth gently exploring what’s underneath it. Sometimes the stuckness is emotional. A feeling that hasn’t had space to be acknowledged. Sometimes it’s a cognitive experience - a mind overloaded and unable to organise the next move. Sometimes it’s a protective response that once kept you safe but now keeps you from moving toward what you want.
Therapy offers a space to slowly unpack this without judgement, without pressure and without the expectation that you should already know how to get unstuck. It’s possible to understand what’s holding you in place and begin building ways to move through it rather than staying trapped inside it.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
